Phyllis Marcine Brekke, 90, formerly of Ames, passed away Sunday, January 18th, 2015 at Lantern Park Nursing Center in Coralville, IA.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22nd, 2015 at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, Iowa 50010). In addition, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 23rd, 2015 at Stevens Memorial Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Phyllis Brekke was born on June 19th, 1924, in Woodward, IA, to Otis and Ella (Paiste) Stump. She was raised in Perry, Iowa and moved to Ames in 1948. Phyllis married Earl Brekke on August 11, 1950. She worked at Hach Chemical until retiring in 1977.
Phyllis loved bowling and after retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Heartland Senior Center and Bethesda Lutheran Church. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 37 in Ames.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicky Suby of Mesa, AZ, and Patricia Langley of Iowa City; three stepsons, Doyle Brekke of Ames, Gerald Brekke of N.J., and Bruce Brekke of Birmingham, AL; one stepdaughter, Gloria White of Kelley; 6 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Brekke; two sisters, brother, daughter, step-daughter, and step-grandson.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials in her memory can be made to Heartland Senior Center and Bethesda Lutheran Church.
