I went to Tony's funeral last night and I wished I had the nerve to get up and say a few words but I didn't. So here is what I would have said:
My family will truly miss Tony. He was a good neighbor, a good friend, a good father, and great grandfather. There were many things I loved and appreciated about Tony. He had such a big heart and a gentle soul. He loved to talk and was genuinely interested in you. He loved life and was interested in many things. He was honest with you and that is a rare quality. He enjoyed a good hug. He LOVED his grandchildren and showed it every day. He was always there for them, at games, at school celebrations, to babysit, there and present. He was very interested in their lives and they will always cherish this. I thank him for loving my child, Grace, as his own and she will always remember that. Tony, yours was a life well lived, but taken all too soon. We will miss you.

To Dave, Tam and family,
   I'm glad I had the chance to meet Tony and spend some time with him at family gatherings and vacations at Myrtle beach. Moments like that are special when you get to know your friends parents.   Maybe our dad's have met in heaven already.  My thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Tony, Bette and I were in Almaden Little League together as the kids grew up.  We will miss him very much.  He was a great friend and a barrel of laughs many times.  My wife Bette always loved his humor.  He is missed every day.  His Skype account keeps coming up and I wonder if his ghost will answer.  We will be there in spirit on Friday at the Funeral Service and the Interment.

Our prayers are with the Herr family and all of Tony's loved ones.  He was respected and loved by many, and we only wish we had the opportunity to have gotten to know him better, and to have spent time with him. Rest in peace, Tony.  With our love and deepest sympathies.

In 1985 Tony was my first manager when I joined IBM in San Jose.  I couldn't have been more lucky.  He was a great man, a fantastic boss and by every indication a wonderful family man.  Tony made a permanent imprint on me and I will be forever grateful.  With deepest sympathies.

We will be there in spirit on Friday when our dear friend of over 35 years, Tony, is laid to rest. Our deepest sympathy goes to David, Danny and Chris and all their families. We will be praying for you all as you go through this difficult time. Please know that we will hold in our hearts forever our memories of Tony and all the times we spent together over the years and also of all the Herr family.

Tony will be greatly missed by many.  He was always such a great person to talk to and gave great advice.  Well minus the whole retire straight out of high school, that never really happened.  I'm so glad I got to know him and he will always have a place in my heart.  Miss you bunches Mr. T!

I met Tony just this year at the tax office. We immediately hit it off, as he was so outgoing and willing to assist whenever asked. We shared alot of talks over our morning coffee, some filled with laughter and some with tears. He knew that he had a tough battle ahead of him. Tony was a man of large stature, voice and heart. He will truly be missed by everyone at the office. May God bless his family, that he truly loved so much, and give them strength and comfort as they go through this difficult time.
