She was born on January 31, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Smith and Lula (Ray) Colbert. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and woman of faith. After her family moved to Florida in the early 1930s, she grew up near Plant City. She had fond memories of that time, including picking strawberries in high school for spending money. She joined the Army during WWII and received training as a surgical tech and aircraft sheet metal worker. She went on to have a career at the United States Post Office.
After retiring, she traveled extensively across the United States and parts of Europe with her husband George. She also loved staying home and enjoying family time; the board games would come out often!
She was active with Penny Road Church of the Nazarene in Raleigh and Remnant Church in Fuquay-Varina. Among her callings were prayer groups and ministering to patients in a high security psychiatric facility.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, George J. Weston Sr., her sister Betty (Colbert) Jenkins, and daughter-in-law Edwina (Sissy) Weston.
She is survived by her sons, George J. Weston Jr. (Joyce), Robert Weston (Sissy), and John Weston (Karen); twelve grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m. at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene in Raleigh.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy can be shared below within “Add a Memory” for the Weston family.
