

Bette Arlene Thompson, 74, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Carolina House in Cary. She was born February 2, 1937, in Freedom, PA, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Emma (Edie) Whittingham. She married Richard Earl Thompson on July 25, . He predeceased her in September of 2003.
Arlene was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of Gallaudet University and taught at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, before her children were born. Arlene pursued her master’s in Education at Northeastern University. Arlene was a long-time member of Grace Chapel in Lexington, Mass. Arlene taught a program at the Horace Mann School of the Deaf in Massachusetts for 9 years until she took care of her husband at home.
Her survivors include her son, Kevin Thompson and wife Ann of Hudson, MA, daughter, Julie Regan and husband Dave of Apex, NC, and grandchildren, Peter Thompson, Christina Regan, and Matthew Regan.
Services will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11 AM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams Street, Apex, NC. Burial will follow at Wake Memorial Park in Cary. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to New England Home for the Deaf, Danvers, Massachusetts.
