Our mother, Beverly Parks Honeycutt, of Raleigh, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the age of 67. She was fun loving, compassionate, and always “anticipating a good time.” She was a loving mother and grandmother, passionate educator, and loyal friend.
She was born on October 4, 1944 in Salisbury, Maryland to the late Luther M. Parks and Bertha Fay Parks. She attended Methodist College in Fayetteville where she earned a degree in elementary education and also later completed a graduate education degree at UNC – Chapel Hill. Her passion for education was evident throughout her career of more than 35 years in various public school systems. She taught elementary school in Rhode Island, Washington NC, Durham and Raleigh. She served as an assistant principal and/or principal in Durham, Raleigh, Greensboro, and Greenville, South Carolina. She also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in Raleigh. Throughout her career she was a compassionate and dedicated advocate for the education of less fortunate and special-needs children.
Surviving are her two daughters, Julie Honeycutt-Edgett (husband, Jim) and Blair Honeycutt-Therit (husband, David). Also surviving are her three grandchildren, Asher David Edgett, David Benjamin Therit II, and Luke Alexander Edgett.
Funeral services will be held at Catawba Springs Christian Church at 12:15 pm on Monday. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 – 4pm at Apex Funeral Home.
We want to thank all of her friends and neighbors who have comforted, supported, and loved our mother. Your friendship was an encouragement to all of us during her long battle with breast cancer.
