Born on October 11, 1958, in Albemarle, North Carolina, Buster was the son of the late Hessie Sharp Clark and Billy Johnson Clark. He graduated from Campbell University in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. His career spanned nearly four decades at Cary Oil Company, where he started working at a convenience store and worked his way up to become the IT Director.
Buster proudly served his country as an Armor and Transportation Officer in both the North Carolina Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. He enlisted in October 1979 and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve in 1985, demonstrating his dedication to service and leadership throughout his military career.
Beyond his professional life, Buster was known for his love of the outdoors and time spent with family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating; whether at the river, lake or beach, and sitting by the firepit sharing stories. He also had a passion for snow skiing and playing basketball with his children. Buster was at home on the water, some of his fondest memories were made at Cape Lookout, where he and his family found their own private paradise. When not at the beach he enjoyed boating trips to Jordan Lake, where he cherished weekends on the water with his family, fun-filled times accompanied by music-filled car rides and evening drives searching for deer at dusk. No matter where he was, Buster was always the life of the party, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Clark of Apex; his children: Billy Johnson Clark III “BJ", and his wife Jessica of Fuquay-Varina; Andrew Clark of Apex; Laura Edge, and her husband Collin of Belville; his sister Becky Jo Clark Stafford and her husband Dan of Raleigh.
Buster’s legacy lives on through the countless memories shared with family and friends. May his adventurous spirit and warm presence continue to bring comfort to those who knew him.
