Carolyn Mills Abernathy

Carolyn was born September 8, 1933, to Joseph Monroe Mills and Katie Lou Green Mills. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy Ray Abernathy, sister Bettie Ann Faircloth, brother Joseph Monroe (Joe) Mills, Jr., and nephew Ronald Joseph Mills.

She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, Cary, NC. She retired from the North Carolina Board of Health in 1981 after thirty years of service.

There were no children born to Carolyn and Billy, but surviving Carolyn are special nieces and nephews, Kim Mills Evans (Jimmy), David and Jennifer Faircloth, Beverly and Clark Hering, Jennifer Breece, Gar Abernathy, Conley and Kathy White, Patricia and Harry Holman, Carol and Doug Campbell. Also surviving are in-laws Yvonne Abernathy and Peggy Abernathy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Westwood Baptist Church, 200 Westhigh Street in Cary, with visitation prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Highway 55, Fuquay-Varina.
