

Chao Shan "Charlie" Su, 89, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024. Born in Tainan, Taiwan in 1935, he graduated from National Taiwan University in 1958 and pursued further studies in Japan before moving to the United States in 1965. He earned a master’s and a doctorate in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Charlie had a distinguished career as a professor at Davidson County Community College, where he taught for 25 years and served as Chairman of the Industrial Department. He was actively involved in both Chinese and English-speaking churches and contributed to the local Asian American community, serving as president of the Chinese American Business Association of North Carolina (1997-1999) and the Chinese American Academic and Professional Association in Southeastern United States (2001-2002).
Charlie is survived by his wife, Sylvia, his children, Henry (Linda) and Lily (Peter), and his grandchildren, Ellen, Charles, Cameron, and Brandon. He will be remembered for his deep love for family, strong Christian faith, and commitment to his community. Charlie considered North Carolina his home, where he enjoyed hiking, traveling, and spending time with loved ones. His family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace with God.
