Charles was born on November 4, 1951 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Edward and Iris Wilkes. He enjoyed a long and successful electrical career taking him as far as Canada and Japan. He taught electrical classes at Wake Technical Community College, worked as an electrical inspector for the town of Cary, and served as an assistant chief over the NC Department of Insurance. He enjoyed being outside, passing on the electrical trade to his sons, and traveling to Alaska in past years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Gail Wilkes. He is survived by his brother, Wayne Pearce and wife, Jackie of Wilmington; niece, Amy Price; daughter, René Gardner and husband, Matt; sons, Edward, Phillip, John, and Joshua Wilkes; grandchildren, Isabelle Wilkes, Eli and Cade Gardner.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Raleigh Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
