Dorothy was born on September 11, 1934 in Ogden, Utah, the third child and first daughter of Arthur Lorenzo Johnson and Dorothy Elizabeth Coop. She married her sweetheart, Donald Boyd Hare, for time and for all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 18, 1953. They enjoyed most of their married life in Silver Spring, Maryland, until their move to North Carolina in 2019. Dorothy and Don have six daughters, 21 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served valiantly in many church callings, including Stake and Ward Relief Society president, Stake and Ward Young Women President, Young Women Camp Leader, and Youth Seminary teacher.
Notably, she served for 25 years as a worker in the Washington, DC Temple in Kensington, Maryland. She was always a wonderful neighbor, friend, and faithful ministering sister, blessing the lives of the many individuals and families with whom she came in contact.
Dorothy loved sewing (she made each of her daughter's wedding dresses). She also loved feeding the birds, especially bluebirds, and caring for plants and flowers.
Her family enjoyed her gifts and talents in cooking and baking, especially her banana bread, bran muffins, and her homemade donuts on the 1st snowfall of the season. She was always active in family history work and in attending the temple, and she was a diligent student of the scriptures. She especially loved reading The Book of Mormon.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Boyd Hare; her great granddaughter, Lila Rose Rich; and her siblings, Arthur, Carolynne, Jesse, Rhoda, and David.
Dorothy is survived by: her six daughters, Emma Kay (Don Curtiss), Susan Elizabeth (John Rich), Venus DeAn (Erik Draper), Kimberly Lynne (James Michael Talentino), Judith Marie (Kent Van Leeuwen), and Cristin Louise (Patrick Fields); her 21 grandchildren; 28 of her 29 great grandchildren; and her brothers, Kenneth and Robert.
To honor Dorothy's memory, we are holding a celebration of her life on Friday, November 11, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 590 Bryan Drive, in Apex, NC. Family will receive friends and guests from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service in the chapel. A short graveside ceremony for close friends and family will then take place at the Wake Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 905 Wake Chapel Rd, in Fuquay-Varina.
In addition to flowers, Dorothy had requested that memorial contributions be made to the following non-profit organizations: Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, 27607 (transitionslifecare.org); *LDS Philanthropies: Humanitarian Service Giving, (philanthropies.churchofjesuschrist.org)
