Doug was born on March 12, 1955 in Erie, PA to the late Blaine Gerald Momeyer and Alice Morris Momeyer. Childhood was spent on the shores of lake Erie; hunting, fishing and boating with friends. He went to school at Clarion University to study sculpture and art. It was here that he met his future wife, Marta. They relocated to Apex, NC in 1983 and he began his career in circuit board design, which he recently retired from.
When Doug wasn’t at work you would find him in his earlier years renovating his house with his wife and cheering his kids on in their art and athletic activities. He preferred vacations that involved nature whether it be an adventurous backpacking trip or relaxing at the beach, always with his family beside him.
He thought of his pets as family and treated them as such by taking them everywhere and feeding them table scraps. During holidays he was known as a great advocate for appropriate sweets and was the king of baking Christmas cookies. Once he retired he settled into relaxing on his patio and admiring Marta’s garden while listening to music and hosting friends or family.
His happiest moments were when he was surrounded by those he loved, telling stories to his captive audience, or hosting dog park sessions at the house. He always made happy hours truly happy and will be sorely missed.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of many years, Marta Momeyer; daughters, Claire Momeyer and Dana Momeyer Skeffington.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29th at 3pm in Apex, NC. Please contact the family if you would like to attend.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to Triangle Aphasia Project (“TAP”) https://www.aphasiaproject.org/donate/ in Doug’s memory. TAP was instrumental in his recovery from a stroke in 2019 and he was always appreciative of the organization and the community they create.
Fond memories and expressions of condolences can be shared online at apexfuneral.net for the Momeyer family.
