Ellwood Alphonso Holland

Ellwood Alphonso Holland, 89, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 08, 2013. Mr. Holland was born in Chatham Co, NC on May 30, 1924 to Emmette Holland and Lillian Lawrence Holland. Mr. Holland was a self employed carpenter most of his life, known for his swings and Adirondack chairs. He also enjoyed playing music with Bill Monroe during barn raisings in the community.

Mr. Holland is survived by his sons: Billy Holland (Diane Eubanks) of Durham; Mike Holland of Apex; Dana Holland (Debra) of Apex; son-in-law: Chuck King of New Hill; daughters: Gloria Wise (Larry) of New Hill, and Barbara Depree (Linwood) of Moncure. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; brother: Otis Holland (Lib) of New Hill; and sisters: Fanny Mae Beckwith and Mary Brown both of New Hill.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Holland; son, Timmy Holland, daughter, Donna King and grandson, Billy Holland, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 11, 2013 at New Hill Baptist Church, 3700 Old US 1 Hwy, New Hill, NC. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Thursday in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
