Gene Tingen

Worth Eugene Tingen, age 90, of Apex, North Carolina passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. He was born on August 30th, 1934 to the late Worth Thomas Tingen and Mary Jane Goss in Apex, North Carolina.

Gene was a longtime farmer, noted as "Outstanding Young Farmer" in 1968. He spent many years as a tobacco and cattle farmer before going to work as a rural letter carrier on multiple routes in Apex; most notably Route #3.

Gene was an avid softball player, and was also very involved with the Apex Athletics from Little League to High School Booster Club. He was a long time member of Olive Chapel Baptist Church and later, Apex Baptist Church. After his retirement, he enjoyed bowling, and considered himself quite accomplished as he repeatedly qualified for senior games. He and his late wife, Jackie, enjoyed traveling. He kept detailed logs of sights he had seen, and points of interest throughout the United States.

Gene spent many hours laying stone and beautifying his yard in which he took great pride.

Gene was preceded in death by his son Barry Eugene Tingen and wife Jackie Holmes Tingen.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children Tony Tingen, Alan Tingen, and Becky Tingen Herrmann (Bruce). Six grandchildren; Curtis Tingen (Jessica) of Apex, NC, Clinton Tingen (Andrea) of Stuart, Florida, Erin McCoy (Tom) of Summerfield, Florida, Jamison Kelley (Michael) of Vero Beach, Florida, Abbey Wedgeworth (David) of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Colton Tingen (Alaina) of Vero Beach, Florida.

Twelve great grandchildren; Naomi, Nate, William, Luke, Stephen, Will, Matthew, Walter, Cash, Caris, Henry, and Addilyn.

One brother; Milton "Butch" Tingen (Debbie) of Franklinton, NC.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Ruth James, Tricia Buxton, and Casey Goodwin for their kind companionship and care during Gene's decline. We would also like to thank Transitions Life Care in Apex, North Carolina for their compassionate care of our dad in his final weeks.

Gene will be remembered for his enjoyment of hunting, fishing, and grilling talents which he richly shared with many.

A visitation for Gene will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W Williams St, Apex, NC 27502.
