Rembering Jim today as we always do. Miss him everyday.

To Mr. & Mrs. Lawson,

Y’all came into my life as customers of frost bank in Houston. We quickly became friends. I struck up many conversations with Mr. Lawson and I was quickly addicted to his stories of sports. I needed an internship to graduate college and was striking out left and right. Mr. Lawson asked me if I would want to intern for the UH Football Team for the 2013 season, and I was forever grateful. I was able to get my college degree. 

After the season I would take many roles but I would reach out to Mr. Lawson 3-4 times a year and we would just catch up. I have been trying to call Mr. Lawson but have had no luck and I got worried. I did my own online search and came across this. I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing and very sad to hear how late I am. I am forever grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Lawson for having lunch with me and helping me secure my internship to graduate.

 We would talk about life and ambitions and I can hear his voice telling me to not give up and don’t forget to make the best of the day. 

To Mrs. Lawson, kids, and grandchildren you are forever in my prayers and thoughts. To Mr. Lawson Thank You for being a pillar in my life, helping me when no one else would, and for always being there for me. I hope you are enjoying a good cocktail, cigar, and a great golf course .

I would love to connect with Mrs. Lawson to pay my respects if possible.

Missing Jim. After Darwyn passed, occasional I would call him to help me with some political questions or any concerns that I may have had since mDarwyn was no longer here to talk to.II often  think  what would their reaction be to all that is going on now in this world.
Miss them both.  Two great men!

Remembering you today with love Denise & Scott.

Jim has been my friend and neighbor for over 40 years. We have shared our families and friends,  we watched our children and grandchildren grow up together. I can honestly say that I have never known a person who had a greater zest for life and a desire to achieve.  He was extremely generous and a true loyal friend who would always be there for you. He leaves a huge hole in our lives but he will live in our hearts forever. 

Our life paths crossed  with the Lawson clan in 1979 when we all moved onto Riverlawn Drive in Kingwood Texas. Little did we know that they would become our family! From Kingwood, TX to Cary, NC we have created and shared numerous precious memories. Jim with his wide smile, cigars, yellow glasses, and two dollar bills stood out in the crowd. His generosity and kind spirit defined him.  He loved red wine, as do I, and was always sharing his latest find.  As we all know, chocolate  enhances red wine so every Christmas Jim would send the best Sees chocolates.  Jim has left a deep footprint on my heart and will be missed terribly.

We are all so fortunate to have had Jim Lawson in our lives. My boss, yes but also a very close and good friend. I am so saddened by our loss and my prayers and comfort go out to Andy and the entire family. He will be missed.
I remember times visiting he and Andy at their home in NC and how proud he was of his "man cave" where he would enjoy his favorite cigar or the theater room. I remember spending a few days with Jim when Auburn was in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. A great time even though Auburn loss to Wisconsin.
Under any circumstance Jim was the most upbeat, positive person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He treated all those working for him as family.
I have a memory of winning a significant deal and calling Jim, after some celebration. Jim kept that message and played it back to me a few days later. If anyone knows the camedian Foster Brooks and the way he imitated a drunk, well that was me (not imitating). He kept it but, never shared it.

Super sad to hear about Jim’s passing. Even as he got up there in years, he was almost always the most boisterous person in the room. 
As sad as it is that he’s no longer with us, and I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, I think the last time I saw Jim ended up being exactly how he would have wanted it. Almost exactly 2 years ago, Jim, cousin Patrick, and I enjoyed some cigars on the deck at Mary and Jim’s house, and we talked about everything from politics to music to pop-culture for about 2 hours. 
I’d like to think he wouldn’t have had it any other way. Sending love to Andy and the rest of the family.

Jim, we will miss your infectious smile, good humor, and positive vibes you always sent out.  Auburn became a special place for us and especially our daughter Caitlin and we believe that none of that may have happened if it wasn't for you.  One of our best memories are you and the athletic director from Auburn returning with Caitlin after taking her on the field during "Tiger Walk" and you announcing that she has "committed" to attend Auburn.   Our times with you and Andy at the numerous Auburn games and tailgates were wonderful and special and made so through your graciousness and good will.  Our prayers are with you,  Andy, and all your family and we will keep you in our thoughts and remembrances forever.  War Eagle, our good friend!

I worked for Auburn University athletics and met jim in 2002. Never met a more loyal auburn person, and loved Auburn and supported. I was a friend and honored to be his friend-wish Andy the best and hope the family will know he was loved and a true AUBURN MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


I was so sad to learn of Jim Lawson’s passing, but I know heaven just got better with Jim’s arrival. When I would see Jim at the driving range, on the golf course, or just passing by in his golf cart, he always had something nice to say. He was always positive,
enthusiastic, supportive, and funny. Jim would make my day better. I will miss him. Rest In peace my friend.


Jim was a big presence in the lives of my parents, Carol and Fergie Ferguson. Every time I'd visit, I'd get to see Jim and we always had the best conversations. You could have a conversation about anything with Jim and he'd have something to say -- politics, the weather, business, technology, healthcare, cigars! I so enjoyed the many talks we had, even when we had very different points of view. I'm going to miss those conversations, as well as Jim's big smile and laugh, those yellow glasses, and the energy and positivity he brought into the room with him.  Jim was also incredibly kind to my son, Keaton, listening to him and dispensing wise advice on more than one occasion. I know his spirit will forever be with everyone who loved him and was touched by his generosity. God bless you, Jim Lawson, and thank you.

Jim, Our hearts are beyond broken.  The laughs, conversations late into the night and shared experiences we have had together can never be replaced and will forever be present in our memories and hearts.  What stands out the most is the role model you have been for all of us.  You have taught us to live life to the fullest, live with joy, lead with generosity, respect others, care for each other and to make every day a great day. Beth and I were blessed to meet Andy and Jim through mutual friends when we moved to Cary 7 years ago.  Jim and I became good friends and getting to know Jim was one of the most enjoyable rewards from our move.  Over the past 7 years we had the pleasure of spending a lot of great times in Jim and Andy's company including trips to Europe, Auburn, Army/Navy football game, and Jim and I went on numerous golf trips and played too many rounds of golf to count.  Jim and I always had a side bet on the 18th hole of every match we played for $1.  Winning that dollar was more important to us than anything else in the match.  Of course, Jim made me give him a stroke.  He was a master at getting an edge and making you think he was doing you a favor but you would laugh because it was Jim and you'd have paid him every time just to have him in your foursome.  Jim had a magnetic personality that everyone was drawn to.  Everyone knew Jim and everyone loved Jim.  

Jim loved Andy and his family, his country, Auburn, golf, and just about everyone he met.  He loved to laugh and lived each day to the fullest.  He didn't just say "Make It A Great Day" he lived it.  Jim was also one of the kindest and most generous people I have ever known.  If you needed anything Big Jim was there for you no matter if you were a good friend or someone off the street he just met.

On the golf course we are a threesome now and we really miss Jim's spirit and laughter but he lives on in all of us and we are all better people for having the pleasure of his company.  

Until we meet again, Rest In Peace my friend and when I see you next remember you owe me a dollar.

Jim and I were friends for 30 years.  I never met a more positive person or a better friend in my life.  I cannot imagine a world without him in it.  

We worked together, played golf together, and enjoyed life and family in Destin, Florida over the years.  I will always be thankful for his huge heart and that big smile.  Talk about a sense of humor and the jokes...he lived life fully, and was Famous for saying “go make it a great day”.  

Linda and I were fortunate over the years to be able to share time with Andy and the rest of the family as well and will always cherish those memories.

When I think of my favorite people in the whole world, Papa always comes to my mind. From his yellow sunglasses, to the two dollar bills, or the Auburn Santa hat, he always had to make a statement. In reality, Papa made a statement by simply being himself. Growing up with Papa, has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. Three things about him always stuck out to me; Papa was the hardest worker, he would do anything for his family, and he deeply cares about what is going on in your life. I remember when I first found out I would be playing college soccer, he was the first person I wanted to tell. From the time I was in elementary school, Papa always told me that if I wanted something bad enough and put in the work necessary, that I would be able to do anything because I had the same spirit as him. Of course, I took this and ran because anything I had in common with Papa was always a compliment. This one summer, all the cousins were in North Carolina, and we decided to paint Papa a t-shirt to show him how much we loved him... let me tell you, this shirt was embarrassing. Papa didn't care how ugly he knew this shirt was, he wore it for the whole day because his girls made it for him. Papa constantly did little things like this to show how much he loved us. He would always find a time to get you alone, hear what was going on in your life, and offer a piece of wisdom. If you were excited for something, he was 10x more excited. He cared so much about everyone, and everyone who talked to him loved him. I will forever remember Papa calling me "sugar" and his famous saying, "Make it a great day". We will all miss him so much, but I know he is with the Lord, watching over every single one of us. 

Dear Andy and Family, 
Words seem inadequate at a time like this and yet I pray that it is words that provide a collection of memories and love to comfort you in the days ahead. 
My connection to Jim was of course through  tennis with Andy, but we also shared a love of all things Auburn. He had a special interest in my daughter,  Avery, after she graduated from Auburn. Every time we passed at the club or on the golf course he always asked about her and we shared a boastful "War Eagle!!!" His love for Auburn was clear, but so was his passion and love for Andy and family. May Jim's spirit live on in each of you and may his cheers ring out..."War Eagle".

Gramps was a one of a kind. For starters he hated when I called him gramps which always made me want to do it more. Papa was one of the most hardworking, loving, & caring person I had ever met. He used to always ask me " do you know what my first car was" & I'd answer "a bike", which always led into hour long conversations about how nothing is free in this world & anything you want you need to work for. After the long conversation he would then always slip me money after telling me nothing in this world was free lol.  I'll never forget the time he told me he would pay me to wash his golf cart. I washed it, terribly I might add, which is why he only paid me 5 dollars! I was so mad but he told me "you got paid for the quality of your work" so of course I went back & washed that cart better than you could imagine & once I was done of course paid me much more then 5 dollars. Gramps taught all of us so many life lessons that I'll forever cherish. He was always so proud of his kids & grandkids & anyone with eyes could see that.  With that being said I hope I can continue to make him proud & become half the person he was. Papa aka gramps & sometimes pops will be missed dearly & I know he will be watching down on all of his family & friends. I know he is up there playing golf, smoking a cigar, & listening to the fight song & I wouldn't want it any other way for him. 

I will always feel blessed and fortunate to have had this great man in my life.  His huge and generous heart, his love for his family and friends, his larger than life personality, his distinct voice and laugh, his yellow sunglasses, his love for football, his love for good cigars are all some of the things that made poppa the special person that he was in my eyes. 
My favorite memories of Jim are what he loved to do on Christmas Eve. He would fill up a shopping cart full of toys and go drop them off at Toys For Tots locations or drive around and/or sit outside of a Goodwill store and determine who could benefit from an envelope filled with cash. 
He will be greatly missed and never ever forgotten. 🙏🏼😇❤️😘✝️

Papa was always lighting up a room when it was down. He wanted you to be the best you could be no matter what anyone else said. He loved unconditionally. I will always miss you and love you. 

Every Christmas Papa would buy all of the grandchildren McDonald’s gift cards to hand out to the homeless people in our home towns. Once we got to high school I realized the importance of helping others and began to keep gift cards in my card all the time for whenever I saw any homeless people. I have been blessed to have such gracious and giving grandparents that my number one passion in life is to help others. And that came entirely from Papa and Nana. I will be doing this with my future children and grandchildren and I’m honored this tradition came from such a kind man like Papa. 

One of my favorite parts about coming to visit in the summer or for Christmas were the talks me and Papa had about life. We would go into his office, close the door, and talk about the things I’ve gone through and Papa has always been the best listener and advice giver. About 2 years ago when we were having one of our talks, I noticed a rock on his desk and knew it must be important because everything he owns has a memory to it. He told me he took it from the Great Wall of China and although that should have surprised me because that’s illegal.. it didnt. And that’s who papa was. Adventurous and larger than life. I’ll miss you more than words Papa. 

Jim was a good friend who I always could count on to have the inside scoop on Auburn football. I will miss him very much!  War Eagle!

Found this today and wanted to share...taken at Harvey’s in Columbus maybe around 2015/2016?  

Uncle Jim it’s hard to imagine your bigger than life and generous character has left this world.   I will never forget all the coins you pulled from my ears and I still have the $2 bills you gave me.  I always enjoyed the Auburn games I attended with you and Andy.  Most of all I will never forget the generosity you and Andy showed when my horse was recovering from colic surgery and you allowed Matt and I to stay at your Auburn condo so I could visit him several times a day, I am certain he recovered so well because of this.
This picture makes me laugh, I was always asking for my pic to be taken in my teens and that day was no exception and you just jumped in for this shot!

I met Jim at an Auburn event in 1999. Jim makes you a good friend from the moment you meet. It is difficult to put into words the impact Jim made on me. I sought his advice often and the wisdom he imparted made me a much better person. My life is better for having met him and will miss him until we meet again. War Eagle my friend and love you 

BJL .. Big Jim Lawson.  Billy and I moved next to Jim and Andy in Cary, and Billy nicknamed him BJL soon after. Jim was larger than life and lived each day to the fullest.  “Life is not a dress rehearsal”, he would say, and that was the motto that he lived by and proudly displayed on his license plate.

Our lives were made richer through knowing Jim.  He loved life, his family and friends and, of course, Auburn football.  War Eagle!   He appreciated everyone for what they brought to his life.  Jim never met a stranger and always left them with a positive statement, whether it was a compliment or an observation, one felt happier and better about themselves.

Jim loved the quiet moments as well.  Many evenings were spent on the back porch, neighbors gathered to talk and share a drink and a cigar.  Jim would sit next to Andy and as he spoke, he would always run his fingers through her hair.. such a sweet, loving gesture to his dear Andy.  Our laughs were many, though not always the cleanest jokes were told, but Jim usually laughed the hardest.

Love of country and those who supported our freedom were so important to Jim.  For many years, he took his grandchildren to meet our military and first responders and insured that the little ones would shake their hands and thank them for their service.  He wanted to be sure that they would carry on the tradition.  

He also had empathy for those that were not as fortunate, and on many occasions during holidays, a family was blessed to receive an anonymous gift so that they could celebrate with their loved ones.

BJL… Big Jim Lawson, you changed our lives and we are better for knowing you.  We love you; you will be forever a part of us as you begin your new eternal life.  


Glenn and I were the last members to join the Kingwood gang some 42 plus years ago.  We always considered ourselves extremely fortunate to have established great life-long, true friendships with all of our Kingwood friends. Jim will certainly be missed by all of us as he has been called to his eternal resting place. Jim’s positive spirit, energetic personality, beaming smile, cheerful laughter and human decency will never be forgotten. I am sure Glenn greeted him with a Martini and directions to the golf club.

Andy, I pray the Lord provides you with strength and peace as you go through this journey. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:13

Jim and Andy have  been dear friends of ours  for  many years, Going  back to his days at Honeywell were he and my husband became great friends. He loved everyone and  everyone loved  him back. When my husband passd away last year he would call me every now  and then to see how I was doing.  I don't think he know how much h those calls meant to me. Once you met Jim  he became your lifelong friend. 
I hope he has been reunited with my husband up in heaven and they are sipping on their bourbon, smoking their cigars and putting deals together!
Andy, you will forever be in my heart and in My prayer. 

Jim was a larger than life kind of guy! Everyone he met was his friend;they loved him and he loved them. I will always remember and cherish the week-ends at the Hanson farm.Jim was always the leader of the pack with many ideas on how to have fun, and yes we did get into trouble most of the time! But Jim could always find a way to make the aunts and uncles laugh! We will miss him and his big smile! Love and miss you already! Sue

I have so many fond childhood memories of Jim but I think the most memorable for me involve the times he and Andy, Dennis and Jeannie would come to visit.  All who could attend would meet and eat at Reuben’s in Columbus.  I always wanted to sit near the adults so I could overhear the laughter from all of the stories he, dad and Dennis would share of their childhood.  We would all be laughing until we cried over some of those stories.  They told them at every visit and they never got old.  Jim, Dennis and Scott meant so much to my daddy and I grew up feeling a sense of closeness to them because of it.  I cannot imagine getting together in the future without Dad and Jim...it just won’t be the same.   I wish we could have one more Reuben’s but that’s not how life works.  As hard as it is for Jim to be gone, I’m comforted knowing he is with dad.  Love you Jim...hug my daddy for me.  

Jim is with the Lord. There is a hole in my heart. He was more than a brother, he was a  wonderful mentor, my best friend and my hero. So many people loved him and he loved them back. I loved him and he loved me back, I look forward to the day when I see you again. RIP my dear brother.

Heartfelt condolences to Andy and all the family.  I remember the first time Joseph introduced me to you in Japan with your wonderful big smile.  You had a genuine interest in people's lives and that passion you had influencing those around you radiated from those who met you.  You were a mentor to my husband Joseph and I know you will always hold a special place in his heart. 

Some wonderful memories of you and Andy attending our wedding in Thailand; fantastic welcoming hospitality from you and Andy in your home and even puffing on one of your famed cigars; and meeting up in San Jose with our baby son.  I still have my lucky two dollar bill! 

You will be greatly missed by family and friends, but not forgotten.


Jim was a wonderfully positive influence on me when I was young and new to the world of business, in the early '90s. He was a great person who didn't have to compromise his values to achieve greatness.

When we met I was a kid in diapers. You and Andy were a valuable part of the Riverlawn Clan. I am fortunate to have seen you dance at my wedding. 
Between then and now there are trips to Hawaii, the legendary Thailand trip and especially to Auburn. 
You encouraged me to check out Auburn, made Ciampi believe I was a Division I ball player and helped me pave the path for my future. Thank you is not enough.

I was stunned when I read about Jim's passing.  I have so many happy memories working with him, playing golf with him, traveling to Japan with him, spending time with the Lawson family,   I remember when Jim and Milt Spiegelhauer introduced Elizabeth and me to Football when we watched East v West Shine Bowl at Stanford stadium in 1989 . We send our love and our condolences to the family. I feel so fortunate to have worked closely with him at Auspex and will miss the opportunity to just talk to him.  He was a great man!

Jimmy was someone when you met him, you felt like you knew him all your life.  He had an engaging spirit.   My father Billy Brewer had the pleasure of coaching Jimmy at Lee High School.  He spoke highly of Jimmy both as a player and person.  Tough great kid...is what my father said about him.  My father was very proud of how Jimmy succeeded as a community leader and business man.  As a coach, discipline and direction was key to on field success.  James Lawson was a player that led by example.  He represented the best of what being a great teammate is all about.  We will Miss Jimmy-but his positive legacy will live on......RIP..

Jim Lawson was a man that I have had the privilege of getting to know the past 6 years.  His positive mental attitude toward life and his ability to make other people feel better about themselves always impressed me. 
I personally will miss seeing that Auburn golf cart  driving around Prestonwood. Jim, Rest In Peace.

When I think of Jim, I think of the Auburn Creed and how he lived it to the fullest. He always made you feel you were the most important person in the room while making everyone else feel the same. A true Southern Gentleman and the definition on an Auburn Man. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten!!!

I first met Jim when I was coaching Equestrian. At Greg Williams’ invitation, he came out to watch practice one afternoon with a group of his friends. He treated our team with respect, and showed he valued them as representatives of Auburn Athletics as much as he valued sports like Football, which was his passion. What a feeling for the newest sport in the department at that time! He gave us confidence that all the work and sacrifice we were pouring into our team and into Auburn were worth it. Years later he would laugh and tell me he couldn’t believe our ‘vision’ then, because all he saw was a field with horses in it. But he could also see the determination and dedication of a group of Auburn people, and he knew he believed in that. He was a proud supporter of Auburn Equestrian and would sing its praises, just like he was proud of all Auburn Athletics. 

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to connect with Jim and Andy again and fortunate to build on that foundation. Jim loved Auburn, and he loved people. He embodied ‘work, hard work’, and often shared with me the best lessons he’d learned along the way through his impressive professional career. He had such great stories! Jim showed me continuously what it meant to care for people, and to look out for those around you. He was part of the Auburn Family, and he treated everyone like family in return.  

Jim personified a great Auburn man. I feel fortunate to have gotten closer to him over the last few years, and I can confidently say I’m the better for having known him.

I first met Jim late summer of 2002. We, Equestrian,  had just become an official varsity sport here at Auburn. The first official function I attended with Tigers Unlimited was at the AU Club. Jim Lawson was one of the first to greet me and pull me in with his group of friends. He shook my hand, slapped my shoulder and said “Welcome Coach, welcome!”He greeted me like that many times over the years and whether I needed a pick me up or he was just congratulating me, I walked away each time feeling like a million bucks. Jim made people better. I hope I can grow more like him each day. 
I hope he’s one of the first to greet me in heaven with his great smile and say , “Welcome Coach, welcome!”

From Bald Head Island to Maui to the Andaman Sea, our adventures with Jim and Andy were WONDERFUL. Thought-provoking conversations, reminiscing, and creating new memories. Jim was a light in my life that death cannot extinguish. I will be forever grateful for the times we shared. 

Yes folks, BJL has been to Heaven before…..
Before departing Singapore, Libby and I stuffed Jim with his favorite Mee Goreng at the Cricket Club and loaded him up with his favorite Monte Cristo, duty free, Cuban cigars.  We then flew to Thailand to stay at the Dusit Thani Rayavadee, a Premier Asian resort, on the island where they filmed the movie, The Beach, with DiCaprio.
Checking in, we were seated, offer warm scented towels and drinks.  Jim was served his drink FIRST by a gorgeous Thai waitress who politely bowed and said, here is your drink, master.  Jim was good to go in Thailand!   We were then informed that “unfortunately” our reserved bungalow was no longer available and that we would be given an upgrade as compensation.
The upgrade turned out to be a three-building compound with a pool, including full-time servants, just vacated by the Queen of Thailand.  Now I was concerned how we would ever get Jim out of Thailand.  I guess you think that things could not possibly get any better?  Did Jim ever tell you about the topless beach that he found, not too far from the compound?
I will miss you Jimmy, but thoughts of you will always make me smile!!!!!

I Have a wonderful memory of Jim always being so kind and wonderful to my three daughters.  They couldn’t wait to come see Mr. Lawson so they could collect there very own $2 bill.  They all have multiple bills and will keep forever.  I will cherish those looks on there face when he handed them the money. He always had a story to go with the giving    Thanks Jim!! In loving memory of one of my best lifelong friends.  Losing Jim really hurts.  I'm so sorry.  He was a great guy, and I loved him like a brother.  So many great times together.  Bless the family because I know they are hurting.  I'm sorry I can't be there for the service, but I am not physically able to make it.  He will always be in my heart and on my mind.  RIP my brother.  I love you.

The Lone Ranger had Tonto and Auburn  University, especially the Auburn Tigers, had Jim Lawson.

From his days as a player through the rest of his life, he was a “Faithful Friend,” a “Kemosabe,” to everything Auburn.

He often referred to himself as “Tonto.”  Everyone at Auburn knew what he meant.  He was Auburn’s “Kemosabe,” Auburn’s “Faithful Friend.”

I shall never forget the broad grin that crossed his face whenever anyone said, “Hey, Tonto, how you doing...”

He was indeed a Faithful Friend to Auburn and to his many friends and associates.

He will be missed...

Jim was a great AUBURN man! He dearly loved his orange and blue - only second to his family.

Over the years, I have loved seeing children and families take their picture with the bronze tiger (located at the south end of the stadium) that was donated by the Lawson family. Pictures with that tiger have become an Auburn tradition in itself.

Jim also loved golf.  Two summers ago, Lindsay Neubarth, Phillip Cowart and I played with Jim at his club.  I had my best round of golf ever in my life.  I hit the ball straight and long, I made ridiculous putts - an all around great round of golf.

Jim didn’t hit that long, but put the ball where he wanted to.  He didn’t make long putts but putted smart.

He beat me by several strokes.  He was a gracious winner, but he was smiling in knowing that wisdom and skill won out that day.

Jim - thank you for the man that you were; thank you for loving Auburn; and I hope you make all your drives and putts in heaven!

I would like to say a lot of things about my brother, but there is not enough space. He meant so much to so many people. He was and always will be my hero.
One of the most important things I learned from my brother was 
compassion, and when you enter into something you do it with your whole heart.
He will never be forgotten, his life will always be celebrated.

You will be missed by so many, My condolences to your entire family. I have only been a member of this family for 6 years, but will never forget when your brother Scott and I got married you walked me down the isle. It was a very special precious memory.

Uncle Jimmy, you were one of kind and always had a smile on your face.  I'm sad that we won't get to have our friendly competition as it is still 2 years away.  When I was 14 or so, you told me you'd give me a $1,000 if I could run 2 miles in 23 minutes when I was 47.  I never forgot.  So funny!  And it was great to see you a few months ago. "There is the way you see it, the way I see it and the way it really is",  which is one of my personal favorites of the many Lawson-isms now woven into my life.

Jim, you will be missed, but you will live on in the inspiration and remarkable attitude you brought to everyone who is lucky enough to have worked with and known you. Please know also, that the world is now teaming with people who know of you as we pass on our many Lawson-isms; stories, words of wisdom and quotes.

As I told you so many times, I want to be you, when I grow up!



My deepest condolences to Jim’s family and friends. I spent many years working along side Jim at Auspex. We never missed a revenue target during our time together.  There were many challenges that we always overcame. Over the years after Auspex we kept in touch. We had a great conversation in October last year and ended with a promise to do it more often. I will greatly miss Jim. Today is a very sad day. 

Jim Lawson was a great boss and mentor who always had a smile on his face and sales motivation in his heart.

My wife and I have kept in touch with Jim & Andy every holiday over the years. They watched our (3) boys grow. We have wonderful memories of sales cub trips. I wanted to keep Jim close. I visited his beautiful home on the golf course in Cary and often sought his council. Our hearts and prayers go out to Andy, the family and all friends of Jim.

 I remember a 2-day offsite meeting with a consultant in San Jose, Ca. while  we were @ Auspex Systems. The idea was to find new revenue opportunities for the product. I proposed the oil & gas market based on storage volumes and other factors. Auspex had no experience to date in that segment, or sw partners to attack it, no SE or sales experience, etc. There were naysayers all around, but Jim provided the critical executive support and his "let's make it happen attitude". That market went on to be our most successful globally with sales revenues @  3X our average selling price and all new business logos. Never would have been possible without Jim! 

Another memory is Jim's end of quarter sales wrap up call. "I can't tell you the number... but I'm lightening my cigar" was music to the sales teams ears - quarter after quarter. Jim put a great international team together and was universally admired and respected.

When Jim retired he gave me a small sculpture of an "owl" made of computer chips. He had it from his early Honeywell days and he wanted me to keep it. He said some kind words and ended with "Don't forget about me"...(No worries Jim, that will never happen - that owl is on my desk as I write this).

My Daddy, my brother John and I met Jim through my good friend Ricky Smallridge in 1999 when AU hired Tommy Tuberville. We became fast friends. We were some of the first members of The Eye of the Tiger club Jim helped found. We had so many great times together at Auburn practices and games, playing golf and functions together. We emailed constantly about our President Trump and Auburn athletics. Jim was a fantastic person and a hell of a man. He is in Heaven now with our Daddy working hard to make Auburn and America great again! Andy you and your family are in our prayers. 

There isn’t enough time nor space to relate the fun we had with Andy and Jim over the last twenty years!  We met as across the hall neighbors at Gameday Center, Auburn, Alabama.  There we celebrated the Auburn University Tigers victories and, once back at Gameday, we replayed our games as well as watching other SEC victories and defeats.  It would be hard to recount the many kindnesses and the generosity of Jim Lawson...he truly was “ one of a kind”! Rest In Peace, Jim.. you know we love you! Carole
