James David Walker

David was born on June 19, 1959 in Baltimore, MD to Jimmy and Virginia Walker. David was an avid family man and he loved sports! He loved his son, Corey, who was not only his son, but his best friend. He loved his family fiercely – his mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law and Corey’s mom. He also had a host of friends who he was devoted to and loved. He enjoyed cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and made a yearly trek with his son to watch their favorite baseball team. He also loved NC State and attended many basketball, football and baseball games with Corey and plenty of other close friends. His father instilled his love of all sports – but baseball above all. David coached for many years at West Raleigh Baseball Association and made an impact on so many young lives. You could also find David on the softball field, basketball court or pickleball court, as he loved to play sports. The morning of his death he enjoyed a game of pickleball with his son and other friends. If he had known he was going to leave this world - he would have spent his last weekend, exactly the same way! On Friday he and Corey spent the day in Charlotte watching the Wolfpack and Sunday watching the Panthers. Corey was the last person he saw, and his dad, Jimmy, was the last person he talked to.

He is survived by son Corey, his parents, Jimmy and Virginia, his sister Myra and brother-in-law Mark, Corey’s mom, Susan and his granddog, Ripken.

Funeral services for David will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 9300 Penny Road, Raleigh, NC 27606. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
