Janet Carol Horton

Janet is survived by her parents, Jack and Carol Ostmark of New Paltz, NY; husband, Dave; three children, Sarah Chamblin and her husband Josh of Tallahassee, FL, Shannon Horton and Tyler Horton of Raleigh, NC; sister, Nancy Nelson; nieces Katie Bastien and Kristen Nelson, and her pride and joy grandson, Decker James.

Janet was born November 8, 1963 in Queens, NY. She grew up in New Paltz, NY and graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She moved to NC as a nanny shortly after graduating and soon met her husband, Dave. The two were wed June 27, 1992. July 30, 1993, April 2, 1995, and January 21, 1997 were the greatest days of their lives when Sarah, Shannon, and Tyler were born, respectively.

Janet became a stay-at-home-mom in 1995 and was fortunate to work from home for many years. She enjoyed exploring the mountains, volunteering with local animal rescues, blueberry and strawberry picking in the warm weather, visiting her hometown, nannying, Christmas, and tending to her “Lola’s” (chickens). She was optimistic in her prognosis and treatments, even as her disease progressed. In her last months, she talked to God often and loved to report their reassuring conversations to anyone that would listen. We miss her dearly and look forward to seeing her again.

A memorial service will be held at 10am in November 23, 2019 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. Apex, NC 27502. The family invites everyone to join them for a reception immediately following the memorial service, at the Ahler's Residence 3408 Mid Pines Rd. Raleigh, NC 27606.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal rescue. Condolences may be offered at 8405 Wanstraw Way in Apex, NC. An additional service will take place in New Paltz, NY at a later date.
