John Houston “Johnny” Maynard, Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, in the comfort of his home. Born and raised in Apex, North Carolina, Johnny was the son of the late John Houston Maynard and Elva Ours Maynard.
Johnny’s love for his community began early in life. He was a proud graduate of Apex High School, class of 1968, before continuing his education at NC State University, where he earned a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as one of the first in the town of Apex.
Johnny’s life took a beautiful turn when he met Diane Warren at a birthday party for a fellow Boy Scout. Their love story began that day, and in 1973, they married, embarking on a lifelong journey together. Over the course of 52 years of marriage, they built a family and a legacy rooted in love, faith, and dedication.
As a Civil and Environmental Engineer, Johnny spent his career designing and building water and wastewater treatment plants across North Carolina, leaving a lasting mark on communities throughout the state. His work was important, but it was always his family that meant the most to him. He was a devoted husband to Diane, a loving father to his two sons, Daniel and Jason, and a proud grandfather to his grandson, Benjamin, who affectionately called him “DD.”
