John Patrick McGovern

Jack was born on September 29, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to the late John Francis McGovern and Margaret McGovern.

Jack always loved sports, both as a player and spectator. Growing up in Brooklyn, nothing made him happier than watching his Brooklyn Dodgers. His basketball skills earned him a full scholarship to Fairfield University. He later became passionate about golf and would watch just about any sport on television, and maybe place a bet on it while he was at it.

Jack spent most of his career at Royal Insurance, in New York City and later in Charlotte, NC, where he made many life-long friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura McGovern, and her partner Benjamin Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Norris Craven, along with their 3 children, Katelin, Kendall, and Cara; and son and daughter-in-law, John and Rebecca McGovern; along with their two children, Melody Slettvet and her husband Anthony Slettvet, and Amelya McGovern. Jack is also fondly remembered by Joan Gonzalez and Debby McGovern.

A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Westview Memorial Gardens in Lillington.
