John was born in New York on August 31st 1950. He grew up in Port Jefferson, NY where he graduated from Seton Hall High School in Patchogue and attended SUNY Stony Brook. John found his career at MetLife as an Account Representative and ultimately joined the family of MetLife Retirees. In addition, John was a proud member of the Port Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department where he served time as the Captain of Company 3. John truly enjoyed his work with the fire department and the wonderful friendships that came along with it. After spending much of his life in the Port Jefferson/Mt. Sinai area of NY, John and his wife Anne moved to Apex, NC with their daughter Caitlin. It is in North Carolina where John watched his daughter graduate from Meredith College, marry Christopher and ultimately make him the happiest "Pop" to granddaughter Vivien Anne. What made John's eye's light up and his smile so wide? His wife Anne and his family. He loved his family and chasing his granddaughter around the house was the best exercise in the world.
John is survived by his wife Anne of 31 years, daughter Caitlin Skotnicki, son-in-law Christopher and his adored granddaughter Vivien; mother Joann Spicola, sisters Barbara Edelman, Kathy Mullady and Diane Copio, and his brother Michael Spicola. John was preceded in death by his father Joseph Spicola.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Port Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department or the Apex Fire Department.
