Kathryn Gattie Queen

Kathy was born in Washington, DC on November 5, 1940 to the late Paul and Mary Gattie. She graduated from Immaculata High School and continued on to receive a BS in Chemistry from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute, IN.

After college, Kathy was a chemist for the National Institute of Health for several years before raising her family. After her children were grown she worked for and retired from the Wake County Board of Elections. Throughout her life she was deeply involved in educational initiatives as well as the Catholic Church and various charitable endeavors.

Kathy is survived by Larry, her husband of 49 years, her children Andrew and wife Dana of New York, NY, Michael and wife Jeanne of Atlanta, GA, Mary Kathryn of Cary, NC, Anne Marie Miller and husband Brian of Apex, NC; grandchildren, Nick, Abby, Matthew, Henry, William, Lawton, Joshua, Alex and David; her siblings Pauline Busby and husband Myron of Edwardsburg, MI, Mary Galloway and husband Glenn of Cheverly, MD, and William Gattie and wife Lyndsey of Sterling Heights, MI, as well as a large extended family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26th from 5pm to 7pm at the Apex Funeral Home (550 Williams St., Apex, NC). A memorial mass will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 27th at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Raleigh, NC.

Larry and his children wish to thank their friends and family for the love and support they have provided. Additionally they wish to thank Waverly Oncology, WakeMed Cary, UNC Hospital and Hospice of Wake County for the exceptional care they gave Kathy.
