Marie was born May 13, 1929 in Nashville, TN to the late Edward and Margaret Hicks. She moved to Essex, MD in the early 1940s and was a 1947 graduate of Kenwood Senior High School. Marie was employed with Martin Marrietta Corporation retiring with over 30 years of service. She enjoyed bowling on several local leagues in Essex, MD and playing softball on her company's team. Marie was a member of Saint Clare Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Melson Smith; daughter, Carol Smith; and sister, Madelaine Bena.
Marie is survived by her son, Barry Smith and his wife, Lynne; three grandchildren, Chris, Tim and Ryan; and three great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held 4pm Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 625 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
