Paul S. Davenport Jr.

Paul was born on February 8, 1941 in Washington County in the state of North Carolina to the late Paul S Davenport , Sr. and Annie Pearl Pritchett Davenport. He graduated from Elizabeth City High School in Elizabeth City, NC in 1959. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1963. He was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Republic Mortgage Insurance Company based in Winston-Salem, NC for many years.

As a young man Paul was once asked what his priorities were. He answered, “God. Family. Career. In that order.” He walked out those priorities all of his life. He loved and trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord and Interactive Friend. He was devoted to his family. And he enjoyed and excelled in his career. In his retirement years he became an expert chef, delighting others with the delicious and beautiful meals he served.

In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Davenport Carr; his brothers, S. B. Norman and Albert Norman; and his sisters, Alethea Norman Spry, Nancy Norman Crabb, and Rebecca Davenport Evans.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-two years, Jeanette Long Davenport; son, Paul S Davenport III; his son-in-law, Lewis K. Carr, Sr.; his grandchildren, Lewis Carr, jr., Nicole Carr, Rene Davenport, Paul Davenport IV, Jenna Davenport, and Eva Joy Davenport; his sisters, Annette Davenport Peoples and Paula Davenport Meads; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

There will be a private family graveside burial service at Apex Cemetery in Apex, NC.
