Peggy Angel Merrell

Peggy was 81 years old when she peacefully passed away while living in a retirement community in Raleigh.

A Mount Airy native, Peggy leaves behind two loving sons: Joshua Dillon and Joel Dillon. She is also survived by three grandchildren, who she adored and doted on.

Peggy was predeceased by her father Willie Angel; her mother Sara Alice Angel; brothers Billy Gray Angel Sr., and Dwayne Angel; and her sister Alice Christine Smith.

She will be missed by her remaining family: Debbie Smith, Delores Lynn Somers and her husband David, Angela Ballenger, Christie and Rodney Hall, Bobby Smith Jr., Vickie Angel Hicks and Michael Hicks, and her nephews Billy Angel Jr., Dennis Angel, Timmy Angel, and John Angel.

Peggy was always full of energy and on the move. She loved the beach, and lived life to its fullest every single day. She enjoyed a good laugh and was a fiercely loyal, loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

A dedicated teacher, Peggy taught for decades in both North and South Carolina.

Peggy also had a deep love for her dogs over the years: Sabrina, Toby, Jett, and Honeycomb.

A formal service will not be held and the family will instead be gathering to honor Peggy's memory at a future date.
