Peter John Thomson, of Cary NC, sadly passed away on September 30th, 2 weeks ahead of his 85th birthday.
Peter was born at 15 Rhodesia Road Aintree Liverpool, England on October 13th, 1939 to the late John and Lillian Thomson. He was the younger of two children. His elder sister, Valerie, unfortunately passed away last year.
Peter married Sheila, his first wife, in April 1965 and they had two daughters Simone and Andrea. They lived the majority of their married life in Knowsley, Liverpool.
He worked from the age of 15 years at Eric Bemrose newspaper printing company as a photogravure planner, and often shared many fond memories of his time there.
In 1976 he met and married his second wife, Barbara, and adopted her son, Matthew, moving to California, USA in August 1985.
They later divorced, and in 1989 Peter met his wife, Christine, the love of his life, whom he married on July 7th 1990. They moved to North Carolina following retirement in 2012 to be near Christine’s daughter, Mandy, her husband Kevin, and daughters, Emma and Paige.
Christine also had a son Matthew, who lives in the UK with his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Kaitlin, who were regular visitors to Peter and Christine.
Christine unfortunately passed away in February this year.
During his working life in the US, Peter was employed as the plant manager at Willow Elementary School in Agoura Hills, CA (as well as working at other schools in the district), and was fondly known to the pupils as “Mr. Pete”.
Peter and Christine were married for 34 wonderful years. They loved spending time with family, taking their dogs for walks, looking after their garden, and dancing.
Peter particularly had a love for Liverpool Football Club and enjoyed watching their matches on satellite TV wearing his Liverpool jersey.
He was a fan of the Beatles music and jokingly saw himself as the “fifth Beatle”.
He had a fondness for drinking extremely cheap red or white wine in copious amounts.
Peter was a kind and thoughtful man. He loved his immediate and extended family, in particular, his daughters Simone and Andrea, his adopted son Matthew, his step children, Matthew and Mandy, and his grandchildren Issy, Aimee, Emma, Kaitlin, Paige, Frank, Ryan and Bella.
He had a very lively sense of humour which sometimes got him into trouble, and often joked about the number of females in his family, including the dogs!
Peter will be sorely missed, and those who knew him will undoubtedly think of him whenever a Beatles song is playing.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on November 4th, 2024 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St. Apex, NC 27502.
