

Henry was born on August 1, 1947 in Durham, NC to the late John Wesley Luther and Mary Alice Holleman Luther. His first memories were living in the old home that Papa John Henry Luther built with wood from the mill where he worked. Papa, and Grandma Grace, Daddy and Mama(John Wesley, Mary Alice) Henry and the family dog, and in 1952, sister Phyllis lived there on the farm until 1954 when the new brick home was built in Wake County. The old Original Historic family farm house still stands on Luther Road. We lived across the road from Grandma Grace’s Brother, Freeman Beckwith Hilliard and his wife whom we called “Aunt Kate”. Their children were Beckwith Hilliard, married Miriam Papa Luther had two sisters, Great Aunt Mamie Luther and / Great Aunt Willie Luther Currin, who were a big part of our lives as well. Each of them are passed on now.
Henry grew to like model airplanes, and loved the model train he received for Christmas when he was about 4 years old. He loved his wagon and learned to ride his new bike when he was six. He loved the country life. He loved farm food, chocolate cake, and fun times with cousins, who would come to visit. Olive Chapel Church was a big part of our life as well.
As a boy, He learned guitar chords from our neighbor Mrs. Weathers. Her learned to play some hymns on Guitar but gravitated later to Country music.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Glenda; brother, David Wesley Luther; his daughter, Jamie Lynn Luther; paternal grandparents, John Henry Luther and Grace Beckwith Luther; maternal grandparents, Julius D Holleman and Zada Howard Holleman; uncles, JD and Marvin D Holleman; aunts, Eva Mae Holt (Arthur), Madeline Hudson (Wilton), Alma Lucas (Joe), and Inez Kidd (Monroe).
Henry is survived by his sister, Phyllis Wagner and her husband, Jerry; son, Christopher Patrick Luther; daughter, Karen Pickering; grandchildren, Justin, Jaden, Jeremiah, Samantha, Amanda Delray, Amber Pickering, Sean Kearney, Cameron Kearney, Zoe Kearney, Madison, Emma, and Mackenzie Locklear; two great grandchildren, Kaiden Luther and Jamie Lynn; stepson, Ted Arnzen; step grandsons, Noah and Jacob; niece, Mary Wagner Hales and her husband, Don Hales; great nephew, Gabriel Kai Hales and great niece, McKenzie Hales; niece, Cynthia Wagner Rose and her husband Jon Rose; great niece, Hadley Rose; and niece, Taylor Wagner (whom Henry taught her first Guitar Chords.)
Family will receive friends and guests on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be donated to Feed The Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-0036. He had a heart for hungry children and expressed for others to help them in lieu of flowers.
