Richard Owen Henderson (1948-2026) passed away on March 14, 2026 surrounded by his family after a 37 year long battle with cancer. Richard graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland, and Indiana State University. Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he married his wife, Linda Henderson, and raised their daughter, Shannon.
Richard’s love and dedication to his family will be remembered and honored by following his fighting spirit and perseverance. Richard loved cars, music, western novels, and watching his grandkids play any sport they tried. He was a skilled at-home handyman with an eye for perfection, finishing any at-home project his wife saw on HGTV.
Those who knew Richard best saw him as kind, gentle, courageous, and a man of his word. He was always ready to lend a helping hand when there was a need, and he did so from a place of caring, never seeking the spotlight. It was not uncommon for Richard to develop friendships and make a meaningful impact on others throughout his life. This was a constant theme whether it was at work or volunteering, on the sidelines watching his grandchildren participate in sports or different activities, or when he just happened to come into contact with anyone who he thought might appreciate a kind word or encouragement. He loved others deeply and authentically, impacting more lives than we will ever know.
Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda, his daughter and son in law, Shannon & Adam Steele, and his adored grandchildren Henderson (17), Bellamy (15), and Malone (13). Richard is also survived by his sisters, Carol & Joanne, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and the many nieces and nephews he cherished and vacationed with annually. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis & Lucille Henderson.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8
