

The only child of William and MaryEtta Taylor Gorey, Sadie was born in the Meiers’ Corners neighborhood of Staten Island, NY where she resided for 74 years. After graduation from Curtis High School in 1945, Sadie attended Baker’s Business School and began her career as a secretary. After a gratifying 40 year career with the Society for Seaman’s Children, Ms. Gorey retired in September, 1989. After a short period of declining health, Ms. Gorey relocated to North Carolina in 2002 to live with her family, during which time she developed many friendships and enjoyed actively participating in the lives of her nephew and niece, Mark and Barbara Musumarra.
Ms. Gorey enjoyed reading, travel, and took great interest in the lives of her family and friends. She is survived by her niece and husband, Mindy and Paul Musumarra of Cary, NC, niece Dianne A. Taylor of Asheville, NC, great nephew Mark Musumarra of Boone, NC, and great niece Barbara Musumarra of Cary, NC. In addition to many relatives and friends, Ms. Gorey will also be especially missed by her lifelong friends, Mr. and Mrs. Erling Schmidt of Wilmington, Delaware.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Apex Funeral Home, Apex, NC. A mass of resurrection will be held at St. Anthony of Padua, Staten Island, NY. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center of Apex, Wake County Hospice, and to Dr. Keith L. Hull, Jr. for his care, compassion and dedication to patients living with Parkinson’s Disease.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation in memory of Sadie.
