Shirley was born and raised in Baltimore, MD and was the youngest of twelve brothers and sisters. She met her husband, Jim, while in high school and it was like the stars aligned. They married on June 4, 1955 and never looked back, celebrating 67 (almost 68) years of love and happiness this past year.
Shirley’s passion was truly for her family, always popping in and out of every relatives home as if they were her own. This love grew even bigger as a mom, going as far as picking up everything she knew and moving to Apex, NC in 2000. While most her age were settling in for their golden years, she was moving her entire life just so she could be around the corner from her daughter and grandchildren.
She was a friend to all, always going out of her way to help the people in her life in any way she could, making sure everyone felt loved and cared for. At times she was quite the firecracker, but the essence of Shirley Doty was, and always will be, kindness, family, and love.
Shirley is survived by her loving and devoted husband Jim, a man who waited on her, hand and foot, until the last moment. A true showing of the vows he took 67 years ago. She also leaves behind; a loving daughter, Donna, a son-in-law who might as well have been her own, Rob, two grandchildren she took pride in spoiling each and every day, Robbie and Ryan, and her son James.
A memorial service and mass will be held at St Michael The Archangel Church in Cary, NC on Thursday, June 8th at 11:00am. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Transitions LifeCare - 250 Hospice Circle - Raleigh, NC 27607 or a Dementia Foundation.
