Trudy was born on October 12, 1940 in Salesel, East Germany (now the Czech Republic) to Wenzel Breuer and Waltraut Morawetz Breuer. Her father worked for the German railroad system as a train engineer and was an Army veteran. Her mother was also employed by the German railroad system as a crossing gate keeper. Trudy was a trained retail clerk specialist where she learned to manage retail stores, do bookkeeping, window dressing, and clothes making.
Trudy worked in a local Army post exchange in Seckenheim, Germany where she caught the eye of Bob Coghill in 1959 while he was stationed there. After dating for almost two years, Bob asked Trudy to marry him. Their wedding was planned for August 1961 but was delayed until 20 September, because Bob was on alert during the Berlin Wall Crisis.
Bob and Trudy were married for 63 years until his passing on 24 December 2024. She was with him every step of the way in his 30 year US Army career. Trudy was a retail worker and homemaker following Bob in his career moves to Germany twice; Ft. Belvoir, VA; El Paso, TX and Fort Bragg, NC several times. She also worked for many years at the Main Post Bowling Lanes at Fort Bragg, NC.
Bob and Trudy were HUGE Elvis Presley fans and loved to dance whenever it was possible, especially dancing to Elvis tunes. Trudy actually saw Elvis while he was stationed in Germany at a local Gasthaus.
