William Pete Franklin passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on May 23, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on April 15, 1931 in Raleigh, Pete lived a long and full life marked by devotion to family and friends, deep faith, generosity and a memorable sense of humor.
A devout Christian, Pete’s faith in God guided his life and values. He lived with purpose, kindness, and gratitude, always ready to lend a hand. His strong spiritual foundation was evident in his everyday actions and his steadfast support of those in need.
Pete spent his career in sales, where his charisma and storytelling made him a natural. But his passions extended well beyond work. He found joy in traveling abroad, exploring new cultures and places with curiosity and appreciation. He was never happier than when he was fishing in the wilds of Alaska, hunting and walking in the woods, fishing and relaxing at Long Beach, or tending his garden at home. A proud Shriner and Mason, Pete deeply valued the bonds of brotherhood and service.
Pete also loved spending time with his friends and cherished those relationships throughout his life. Whether swapping stories, sharing a laugh, or simply being present, he nurtured friendships with warmth and loyalty that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He was known for his colorful stories—often pulled from his own adventures—and for his good-natured teasing. Quick with a laugh and full of life, Pete had a way of making everyone feel like part of the family.
More than anything, he was a devoted father and grandfather. He dedicated himself to ensuring the well-being and future of his daughters, granddaughter and great grandson offering them not only love but also financial security. His generosity extended far beyond family, with consistent support for charities, especially those dedicated to helping children and veterans.
Pete is survived by his daughters, Kim Gilbert and Nancee Franklin (Jay); his granddaughter, Lindsay Gilbert; and his great-grandson, Atlas Narron.
His legacy lives on in the faith he modeled, the stories he shared, and the love and generosity he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
