Edward A. McGahan Jr. passed into eternity and into the loving arms of his wife, Barbara (Elliott) McGahan on November 3, 2015. Edward was born on November 25, 1925 in Los Angeles to Edward A. McGahan Sr. and Evenlyn (Scott) McGahan. He spent much of his younger life exploring the mountains around Big Bear Lakes. His adventuresome spirit led him to enlist in the United States Coast Guard so that he could travel and see the world. While on leave Edward met Barbara and as he put it, “I saw a girl in the church pew and I knew that she would be with me my life through.” Edward and Barbara married June 17, 1950. At the time of Ed’s death, he had 5 children: Michael McGahan (Mona Murdock), Hesperia, CA; Jenny Smith, Susanville, CA; Terry (Steve) Crist, Hesperia, CA; Toni (Lanny) Meins, Ava, MO; Lori (Robert) Ryneer, Pleasant Valley, IA. He also has 13 grandchildren and 17 great grand-children. Edward had an amazing life full of love, travel, poetry and military service. A poem from Ed written in 1991 sums up his life:
As I am getting old and gray,
I look forward to each day.
I hope that many more will last,
As I look back upon my past.
Wondering, did I do my life just right,
Or have I yet to see the light.
I hope that my life has been just fine,
Wondering, did I walk that straight and narrow line.
Will my fame, fortune and future be secure,
Or will I have happiness or sadness to endure.
I’ve done the best I thought I could,
And in Heaven’s line I will have stood.
To meet my Maker, in my own way,
As I have done my duty, day by day.
