Born on February 23, 1978, in Lakewood, California, Joshua was raised by his mother, Charleen, and later also by his stepfather, Larry, who lovingly welcomed him as his own son.
Joshua explored several career paths before discovering his true calling as a Respiratory Therapist. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Platt College and devoted his professional life to serving others with skill, compassion, and unwavering dedication. His work touched countless lives, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the patients and families he supported throughout his career.
Outside of his profession, Joshua had a deep passion for travel and developed a special affinity for Washington State, where he and Jaqueb lived in Richland for three years. He cherished spending time outdoors—camping, hiking, and taking in the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Joshua enjoyed video gaming, movies, and craft beer, especially IPAs. He looked forward to his beloved “Pizza Fridays” and spent many meaningful hours woodworking. He took great pride in creating handcrafted toys for Toys for God’s Kids, bringing joy to children through his craftsmanship. He also participated in cancer awareness runs and treasured his annual “Guy Trips” to Arizona.
Joshua is survived by his children, Dezirae and Jaqueb Smith; his parents, Larry and Charleen Dickson; his siblings, Justin, Jillean, and Amie; as well as his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Services will be held on December 12, 2025, at Sunset Hills Mortuary, 24000 Waalew Rd, Apple Valley, CA 92307. The memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a private reception for family and close friends.
Joshua will be deeply missed. His legacy endures in all who loved him and in the many lives he touched through his devoted work as a Respiratory Therapist. His true calling was sharing God’s love, mercy, and grace with his patients, offering them the peace he believed God intended for each of them.
