He then attended South Davis Elementary (where he met his lifelong best friend, Paul Tubb), Ousley Junior High and Arlington High School. He played football for many years. After graduating in 1963, Andy attended North Texas State University in Denton on a full scholarship to play college football. Andy met Suzanne Rieves at a fraternity party in college and married her in November of 1968. They bought a house in Arlington and loved to entertain and have dinner parties. Andy was known for his incomparable BBQ ribs and brisket that he cooked on one of his several cast iron smokers. Andy even organized a neighborhood Supper Club with 12 different couples who met once a month. He hosted happy hour get togethers, game day watching and holiday parties. His annual Christmas smorgasbords were especially memorable. Andy was always interested in trying new BBQ, fish, steak, or Mexican food restaurants, even if located 75 miles from home. A particular favorite was the old El Rancho Grande in Fort Worth.
Andy was honored to be godfather to Paul and Janice Tubb’s children, who Andy and Suzanne loved as their own.
