Tom was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles E. Ramsey and Sarah Virden Ramsey. His family moved to El Paso when Tom was 12 years old. He graduated from Austin High School in El Paso before serving his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his bachelor's of business administration degree from Southern Methodist University. Upon returning to El Paso, he married the love of his life, Patsy Nell Brandes, on Nov. 3, 1951. Over the next 51 years in El Paso, they raised four sons and farmed cotton. He was named El Paso County's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1959. Tom served on the board of directors for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil and Water Conservation District for Hudspeth County. He was active in many of his sons' extracurricular activities and schools, serving in many capacities including PTA president and coach of their Optimist Little League teams. He was involved and gave much of his time to many civic organizations such as Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International, Masons (32nd degree), Shriners, Jaycees director and American Cancer Society county chairman. Above all else, Tom was a Christian and devoted his life to honoring God while serving in his local church as deacon and Sunday school teacher at Westside Church of Christ in El Paso. Tom and Patsy relocated to Arlington in 2002 and attend Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.
Survivors: His loving wife of 58 years, Patsy; his sons, Gary and wife, Kathy, of Houston, Tom and wife, Debbie, of Lake Jackson, Erich and wife, Tracey, of Arlington, and Charles and wife, Sharon, of Johnson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Kristen, Andrea, Ericha, Brandes, Jordan, Taryn, Jessie, Travis, Ashley, Grace and Erich; great-grandchild, Ashley; sisters, Cleonia Olson of Clifton, Va., and Sarah Baker of Scottsdale, Ariz.; many nephews and nieces; numerous other relatives and friends; and his faithful companion and pet, Tess.
