On August 15, 2023, Charlie Louie Miller, 85, of Arlington, TX, passed away with his beloved wife Claudia (Boulware) at his side. Charlie was born to Virgil and Minnie Miller on March 23, 1938, in Mansfield, TX. His legacy lives on through his wife, two daughters, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Charlie grew up in the Mansfield/Everman/Rendon area, where he attended Everman High School and developed a passion for sports. He then served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 and again from 1961 to 1962, where he was recognized with a medal for good conduct.
On one cool spring evening during his time in the Army, he visited a local Fort Worth bar called The Tropicana. There he approached a table and asked the prettiest girl in the room to dance. Claudia Boulware accepted, and they spent the evening dancing and getting to know one another. Though he left the next morning to return to duty at Fort Hood, he found her number six weeks later in his billfold and called to ask for a proper date.
Charlie married Claudia in 1963 in Fort Worth, Texas. Together, they raised two daughters, Kimberly (Turner) and Kellye (Bickel), in Arlington, TX, instilling in them a love for family, baseball, and camping. Accompanied by his family, Charlie traveled throughout the area playing fast-pitch softball and became an avid Texas Rangers fan. His children and grandchildren spent countless hours with him watching ballgames, analyzing swings, counting pitches, and cracking open peanuts.
When they weren’t at softball tournaments, Charlie regularly packed up the family and headed to the lake. With his camper, boat, and fishing rod, he and his family created cherished memories along the shores of the lakes in North Texas. From water skiing to baiting hooks to frying eggs, Grandpa Charlie loved spending these trips teaching his children and grandchildren his favorite things about camping.
Charlie Louie Miller is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Minnie Miller, and his siblings, Virgil Henry Allan Miller, Sanford Ellis (Jack) Miller, Mary Gertrude Miller, and Minnie Marie Savage. He is survived by his sister, Martha M Hudgins; his devoted wife of 60 years, Claudia Miller; his daughters, Kimberly Turner and Kellye Bickel; his sons-in-law, Dave Turner and Danny Bickel; his grandchildren, Brittany Pratt and husband Mario Martinez Garza, Jordan Pratt and wife Shauna Pratt, Parker Lawson, Donovan Lawson, Natalie Bickel, and Zachary Bickel; and his great-grandchildren, Autumn Pratt, Corrin Pratt, and Braylen Young.
Services for Charlie Louie Miller will take place on Friday, August 25, at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, TX. Charlie never met a stranger, and his family often marveled that he seemed to know someone wherever they went. All who knew him are invited not to be strangers and celebrate his life.
