Darlene "Dar" Jackson, the eldest child of Sim and Dorothy Hassler, died at the age of 80 on Wednesday, August 7th, from complications brought on by advanced Alzheimer's and heart failure. She passed peacefully in the presence of her family.
Born Dana Darlene Hassler on December 28, 1943, in Atlanta, GA, she essentially grew up as a "Southern Belle" having lived in Georgia and North Carolina for a period of time. She attended Wesleyan College and University of Georgia receiving her Bachelor of Arts in English. Dar taught English for several years and then chose to remain at home to raise her children. In subsequent years, she resumed her love for teaching and taught children with special needs in several schools in the Arlington Independent School District. Dar was also instrumental in helping her husband Charles Jackson start CMJ Engineering.
Dar, best known as "Nana" to her 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, was a lifelong and avid reader, wrote poetry, and truly enjoyed documenting the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was paramount to Dar throughout her life and she poured this intention into the creation of "memory books" for each person containing photographs, history, and mementos. Growing and tending her garden was a lifelong pursuit as she spent countless hours practicing her craft, and her blooms matched her spirit, beautifully expressive and unique. She loved photography and created striking stationary with artistic photos of her garden plants and their visitors. Everyone that ever met Dar was touched by her wide and inviting smile, kind-heartedness, uplifting demeanor, and endlessly positive influence on friends, families, and even strangers.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charles Jackson, her sister Nancy Clemmer, and her children Garner, Dana, Chrisma, Amanda, Garrett, and Charlie; her grandchildren Graham, Megan, Elia, Ella, Dallas, Aislinn, Clayton, Serene, Logan, Madox, Gannon, Reese, Brock, and Samantha, and Charlea; and her great-grandchildren Lennix, Gage, Harlow, Rexha, Graysen, and Rowan.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family asks donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Her celebration of life will be held at the Moore Funeral Home in Arlington, TX on Saturday, August 17th, at 2:00 pm.
