Don was born in Childress County, Texas on August 9, 1950 to Leonard (L.H.) and Laverne (Jodie) Terrell. He loved his family and spoke often of his childhood, especially the time spent with his grandparents. The only thing he enjoyed more than working with his grandad, raising horses on their farm, was his granny’s cooking. Don was quite the storyteller; he would keep us all entertained with details of his many adventures. Later, L.H. and Jodie moved the family to Plainview, Texas where Don graduated from Plainview High School.
Don served in the Army during the Vietnam War where he spent time in active combat, focusing on helicopter operations. He was a man who understood sacrifice and was willing to take risks necessary to protect his county, and his family. After he was honorably discharged as a SP4 in 1973, Don went on to obtain a degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University in 1976. He went on to open Plainview Overhead Doors in Plainview.
He is preceded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents. Don is survived by his sons Eric and Aaron, along with his brother, Allen and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to especially thank Tina Collins and her family for the love and compassion they have shown over the years. His life was better because you were in it.
While we are thankful Don has finally found peace, he will be missed by those who loved him.
