Donald Ernest Short

Donald (Don) Ernest Short, 89, of Arlington, born Nov 1, 1935 to Inez Weaver Short and Ernest Short in Lamar County, TX (East Texas) passed away August 24, 2025. He graduated from Paris High School in 1954 and attended Paris Junior College and Arlington State College (now UTA) before joining the Air Force and being stationed at Fairchild AF Base in Spokane, WA, where he met his wife of 64 years, Judy Acree. They settled in Arlington, where he worked at the Container Corporation for 25 years and then at Pepsico for 35 years, retiring at the age of 84. They were members of North Davis Church of Christ for 64 years (originally at Abrams St.). Don will be remembered as a hard-working quiet man who would surprise people with his wit who loved gardening and watching sports- especially the Dallas Cowboys. He treasured time spent visiting family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Judy Acree Short, and son, Brad Short of Arlington and daughter Lori Irvin and husband Michael of Bedford, grandchildren Emmy and Quinn Irvin, sister Betty Tarver of Arlington, niece Mandy Tarver, also of Arlington, and stepsisters Doris Whitley of Duncanville, and Brenda Burkett of Colorado. Visitation will be Sunday Sept. 7 at North Davis Church of Christ in Arlington at 2 pm, followed by the funeral at 3. Burial will be the following morning at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.
