Ed devoted his life to his family, especially to his sweet bride of nearly 50 years, Angela, whom he faithfully cared for during her brave battle with cancer. In his early years, Ed’s family moved often as his father served as a Baptist preacher, before eventually settling in Texas. In 1966, Ed joined the United States Air Force. During a brief leave before reporting to Korea, he met the love of his life, Angela Sophia, in New Jersey. They began their young family there before making Arlington, Texas their permanent home.
Ed and Angela were founding members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington, where they helped build both their family and their community. Ed graduated from Dallas Baptist University and went on to retire from the United States Postal Service after more than 30 years of dedicated service. He served as Maintenance Manager at the Bulk Mail Center in Dallas.
A lifelong lover of sports, Ed was an avid athlete in his youth and later coached his children, passing along his passion and competitive spirit. That love for the outdoors and sportsmanship continued through hunting, a pursuit he enjoyed even up until the end of his life.
Known affectionately as Big Ed, Eddie, and Papa, Ed was remembered for his stubborn yet quirky personality, his devotion, and his unique sense of humor. He loved entertaining, traveling the world with his precious Angela, and took great pride in his family, faith, community, and collections.
Ed is survived by his daughters Jennifer Myers (Ryan) and their children Dylan, Kelsey, Logan, and Rhett; and Angela Clark (Ben) and their children Bailey, Matthew, Addison, and London. He is also survived by his daughter-in-love Janis (Edward W. Planche) and their children Zach and Cody; his sister Rene Jones and her family; his brother-in-love Ralph Chase (Barbara) and their family; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Edward A. Planche, Sr.; his mothers, Billie and Catherine; his father- and mother-in-love, Walter and Amelia Chase; his beloved spouse, Angela S. Planche; his brother-in-love Leonard Chase; and his son, Edward W. Planche.
A service will be held on February 2, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Ed’s legacy lives on through the family he fiercely loved, the faith he faithfully practiced, and the many lives he touched through his devotion, humor, and steadfast presence. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Papa, and friend whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
