Giovanni Silvestri passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on April 10, 2025, just a few short days after his 86th birthday. He was born on April 1, 1939 in Naples, Italy to Carlo and Carmela Silvestri and his proud older siblings. As a young boy, he enjoyed playing soccer as a talented goalie in Naples and even had a couple of broken fingers to prove it. When he had a free moment, he loved spending time at the beach, scuba diving and fishing for fresh fish out of the ocean. He met the love of his life and soulmate, Gabriella Mansi-Forlani, on the beaches of Villa Marechiaro. They married in 1968 and immigrated to America via Miami, Florida.
He took a job with VSL Corporation in 1972 and was offered the opportunity to work in their new office in the DFW area. They moved to Texas and settled in Arlington, where Giovanni and Gabriella raised their two children, Carlo and Stephanie. He worked for VSL in various roles for 37 years.
Giovanni was known for his charming personality, his endearing Italian accent, being a good listener with sound advice, his love of entertaining and being around his loved ones both family and friends. He was often known to invite the whole neighborhood for dinner on a whim, causing Gabriella to ‘whip up’ a feast always fit for kings – Gianni seated at the head of the table talking, drinking and eating for hours and hours. They were known for their epic New Year’s Eve parties where all ages were welcome to celebrate together with good food, plenty of celebratory drinks, awesome music, a dance floor, and laughter making lifelong memories.
He enjoyed the outdoors, keeping the yard and pool in pristine condition, walking 3 miles a day and doing his Italian puzzle books. He was the best handyman around knowing how to do everything from building a deck, plumbing, becoming a certified electrician – just to name a few. If it needed to be built or fixed, he knew how to do it!
He was a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, uncle, brother and lastly “Nonno” to his two beautiful granddaughters, Giuliana and Annabella. He was proud of “his angels” as he called them and they were the apple of his eye. With his passing, the world lost one good, charming loving man. He called many he interacted with “sweetheart” - when in fact, he was the real deal and cherished by countless people!
Giovanni was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and a few dear friends and coworkers. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Gabriella, their children, Carlo and Stephanie, daughter-in-law, Beth, granddaughters, Giuliana and Annabella and several Italian nieces and nephews.
