Joy passed away in her home in Arlington, Texas on July 8, 2024. She was a sweet, loving woman who was blessed with a large family and many friends. She was loved and adored by many and will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Monday July 15, 2024, at Moore’s Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Committal services will be held at 2:00 PM following the funeral service.
Joy was born November 16, 1936, in Booneville, Arkansas to Charlie Lee York and Rena Bell (Taylor) York. She was the second of six children. The family lived in Arkansas while Charlie worked as a carpenter. The family moved to Texas in 1945 when she was 8 years old, where they finally settled in Grand Prairie, Texas where Charlie worked for Vought Aircraft.
That is where she met and married Bobby Anderson on May 29, 1954, and together they had five children. She worked as an LVN nurse and raised her children alone while working at Great-Southwest Hospital, Arlington Memorial Hospital and Dalworth Nursing Home. She truly loved her time working in Labor and Delivery and the Emergency Room.
She later met her eternal love Billy Jack Nicholson at Church. They married on December 09, 1981, she then moved to Arlington, Texas where she lived out the rest of her life. The two of them created a life they were proud of. They even raised their oldest granddaughter. They had a Christ filled home full of love and laughter. Their door was always open to anyone who needed a place to sleep, a bite to eat, an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. They hosted a meal for every holiday, and she was so excited to have her entire family gathered around the table that he had hand-built for her to feed them. She had extraordinary culinary skills that cannot be matched.
Her favorite time to gather was Christmas when she went all out decorating and buying gifts. All while praying for a white Christmas. She had a genuine love for snow, but only to look at. She enjoyed having her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren all around her. She was our light in the dark, an answer to our prayers and a force to be reckoned with. She always kept us covered in prayer. She was the comfort we all needed when we were sick or had a problem. She was the warrior who would be the first to fight our battles. And she was always the first one to put us in our place. She had a constant need to take care of everyone else, yet she loved to be pampered. She only ever truly wanted to know that each and every one of us would see her on the other side. She will be the first one there to greet us when we make it there. Joy was a mother of five children and Granny to nine grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her precious parents, Charlie and Rena York; her loving husband Billy J. Nicholson; her brothers Dwight York, Dwayne York and his wife Linda, and Damon York and his wife Francis; Sister Gay Price and her husband Don, son-in-law Johnny Gonzales, and several nieces and nephews.
