Upon returning to civilian life, Tom worked briefly for Texas Electric before beginning a dedicated 30-year career with the United States Postal Service. He was a man who couldn't sit still, often taking on side projects painting houses, building dog houses and other tasks to support his family. After retiring from the USPS, he and Jennye, operated two health and vitamin stores.
