Jack Alfred Eastwood, Sr. went to be with the Lord on May 15th, 2023, at 80 years of age. Jack was born August 17th, 1942, to Robert and Alyce Eastwood in Dallas, Texas. He spent his childhood in Fort Worth, TX, with his older brother Melvin, and younger sister Linda. Jack gave his life to Jesus at seven years of age during a community revival and remained a committed follower of Christ throughout his life. He spent more than 50 years teaching the Bible and serving in his local church. It was at church where he first met his wife of more than 60 years, Frances, whom he married in June 1962 and lovingly called his “beautiful lady.”
Jack had a keen intuition for mathematics and earned a degree in accounting from Dallas Baptist University in 1971 while also working full-time and raising his children, Freddie and Pamela. He worked as a CPA for the City of Arlington for 28 years, first as Director of Audit and subsequently as Director of Finance. In these roles, he managed finances for several major projects, including the construction of The Ballpark in Arlington in 1994. Throughout his tenure, he established a reputation as an honest and devoted public servant who never compromised his convictions.
Upon retiring from accounting in 2000, Jack began his second career as a full-time Granddaddy. This job included attending dozens of Ranger games in the summer heat, driving thousands of miles on road trips, making countless visits to Randol Mill Park, Chuck E Cheese, and Six Flags, investing hundreds of hours in puzzles, card games, and crafts, and wrangling his four energetic “best buddies” without end. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” to his grandchildren, as there was seldom a broken toy or situation that couldn’t be mended by his careful hand and wisdom.
These are some of the facts of Jack’s life, but those who knew him experienced the intangibles of his personality that are impossible to capture with words: his deep sense of personal ethics; how he could regale listeners with a story; the ability to tie double-Windsor knots perfectly; his skill for gardening and yard maintenance; the timbre of his singing voice; his immense love for his family; and most of all, his embodiment of Proverbs 3:5-6 and his steadfast hope in Jesus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alyce, his brother, Melvin, and his sister, Linda. He is survived by his wife, Frances; his children, Freddie (Debbie) and Pamela (Mark); his grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa), Preston (Jessie), Austin, and Samantha, and his three great-grandchildren.
