We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Jan Reichle Posey on January 24, 2025. Jan was born on July 16, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, to John Gotleib Reichle and Jeanette Wediking Reichle. She grew up in Irving, Texas, and attended Irving High School before earning her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from the University of Texas at Arlington.
While at UTA, Jan met her husband, Randall Posey, through their shared love of music, singing together in the UTA A'Capella Choir and Madrigal Singers. She went on to work at several different office jobs before dedicating her time to teaching piano lessons and preschool music while raising their two daughters, Jennifer and Kristin, in Carrollton, Texas. During this time, her husband, Randy, served as a lieutenant with the Carrollton Police Department.
As Randy's career progressed and he became Chief of Police, the family moved to Rowlett, where Jan began teaching elementary music in Rockwall at Dobbs Elementary and later at Shugart Elementary in Garland, where she worked for 14 years. While living in Rowlett, Jan was very involved in her daughter’s school activities, always attending and volunteering at their performances and games. After their daughters graduated from college, Jan and Randy moved to Bonham, Texas, to be closer to family. There, she continued her passion for teaching at Whitewright Elementary for eight years until her retirement in 2014.
In 2014, Jan and Randy relocated to Mansfield to be near their beloved grandchildren—Kate, McKenna, and Brenden. She found immense joy in attending their choir concerts, dance competitions, gymnastics meets, baseball games, and volleyball games, rarely missing a moment. Even in retirement, Jan continued to share her love of music by substitute teaching and giving piano lessons.
Throughout her life, Jan’s love of singing remained constant. She was an active member of church choirs, including the choir directed by her daughter, Jennifer, at Epworth United Methodist Church. She also cherished time spent gardening and reconnecting with lifelong friends.
Jan is reunited in Heaven with her parents, John and Jeanette, and her brother, Jon Carl. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Randall, of Grand Prairie; her daughter, Jennifer Portele of Fort Worth; her daughter, Kristin Wallis, and her husband, Tim Wallis, of Mansfield; and her grandchildren, Kate Portele of Fort Worth, McKenna Wallis of Mansfield, and Brenden Wallis of Mansfield.
A memorial service celebrating Jan’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 2 PM at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1400 S. Cooper St, Arlington, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church.
Jan’s warmth, kindness, and passion for music will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The staff at Moore Funeral Home encourages family and friends to express their fond memories, expressions of sympathy and additional condolences to the family of Jan Reichle Posey, by visiting www.moore-funeralhome.com.
