Jeanette Sumpter Roberson, 87, went to be forever with our Lord, peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Azle, Texas. Born on November 12, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, Jeanette lived a full and meaningful life based on integrity, honesty, family, hard work and above all Faith.
She was the youngest and last surviving of ten children from her parents, James Oscar Sumpter and Lottie Douglas Ferguson. She came from a long line of Texans and resided in Texas her entire life. Deep Texas values were woven into her very character.
Although she had careers at Merrill Lynch and JC Penny’s, she considered raising her children, taking care of her husband and household her most rewarding accomplishments.
She always worshipped Christ and looked to him for guidance. Faith in the Lord was her guiding light. A long-time member of Worth Baptist Church in Fort Worth, her devotion to her church community was immutable even when she could no longer travel.
Jeanette was preceded in death last year by her beloved husband of 50 years, Marvin Leon Roberson. She was a devoted wife, mother and step-mother.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Desiray C. (Strickland) Foster and her husband DeWayne Foster; Presha J. Strickland; Truitt L. Strickland; Preilla E. (Strickland) Atwood; and Gregory D. Strickland; Step-daughters Sheryll D. (Roberson) Martinez and her husband Ron Martinez; Jana D. (Roberson) Gillihan and her husband Terry Gillihan.
Jeanette’s memory and love will also be carried on by her 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, each one a testament to the love and guidance she ignited throughout her life.
She also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting during her child rearing years. Planting new life to grow and tending her yard gave her great joy later in life. She always found a way to be connected to God’s creation.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 16th, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service honoring Jeanette’s life will follow. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens
