Joan was born on February 1st, 1930, at Fort Sam Houston Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, to Major and Mrs. Alexander Mileau. She was a devout Catholic and attended Incarnate Word her entire school career, including college. Joan received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She concluded her formal schooling by earning her Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas.
Joan’s love of family was immense. It was in college Joan met the love of her life, Marion Jacob, Jr., otherwise known as M.L. or Jake. They had three children, but, unfortunately, two preceded them in death. Marion Lee “Trip” Jacob, III, died in 1989, and Christiana “Christie” died in 1991. Joan and Marion would have been married 60 years this past May, but he also preceded her in death.
Joan was very talented. She excelled at the ice rink, as well as in the horse arena. She won several trophies for her equestrian accomplishments. She was elected President of her Delta Sorority and served during the 1950-51 school year. Joan also had a wicked sense of humor and was often known for pulling pranks on her co-workers.
Joan was a life-long educator. She taught for several years before becoming a school counselor. She found her true calling at Hurst Junior High School, where she spent over 20 years, counseling students and making out their schedules.
When Joan and Marion moved to Arlington in 1964, they joined the Saint Albans Episcopal Church and remained faithful members until their deaths.
Joan will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Janet Steffen and son-in-law Don Steffen, as well as her grandchildren Katelyn Steffen; and Richard “Trip” Sansing and wife Carolyn, all of Arlington. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Earl Tindell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and her nephews Michael Tindell of California; and James Seeberger and wife Jayne, of New Braunfels, TX.
