Kathryn "Kitty" Darlene Simpson

Kathryn Darlene “Kitty” Simpson, age 93, of Arlington, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born on March 10, 1931, in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Handley High School.

Kitty was married to Bennie Ray Cherry from 1951 until 1971. She was a homemaker when her sons were young but when they were teenagers, she worked at Arlington Citizen Journal for many years in payroll. The job she was most proud of was her 16 years with Johnson and Johnson as a payroll supervisor. After retiring from J&J, she continued in several part-time jobs including a rewarding time at Speed Fab Crete in Kennedale working for Mr. Dave Bloxom Sr.

Kitty married Paul Simpson on April 20, 2002, and they spent nearly 8 years together prior to his passing in 2010. She maintained many interests and hobbies; she loved sewing and was an excellent seamstress making clothing for her two sons when they were young and much of her own clothing over the years. She loved to cook. You never left her table hungry. She enjoyed gardening. Her patios and porches were always filled with beautiful, lush flowers and plants. She loved crocheting, with a major accomplishment being that she made afghans for her children and grandchildren in one year.

Kitty is preceded in death by her two sons, Gary Douglas “Doug” Cherry and Bryan Ray Cherry; Sister, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Renfro, and Niece, Edith Ann Harner.

She is survived by her Daughters-in-law, Mary Cherry (Doug) and Patty Taylor (Bryan); Grandchildren, Debbie Cherry Reynolds (Charlie) and Darren Cherry – Doug’s children, Beth Cherry Brentlinger (Steve) and Daniel Cherry – Bryan’s children. Great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Kacie Reynolds, Briza, Lluvia and Daniellina Cherry; Nephew, Charles B. Renfro Jr. (Nancy).

Graveside services for Kitty will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis Drive Arlington, TX 76012.
