

Marilyn Buys Agee, a great-grandmother, lifelong learner and adopted Texan, passed away October 14, 2014, a few days short of her 91st birthday. (She made the Nifty Ninties.) She was born into a family of intellectuals, her father was a professor at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. It is here where she came to love winter sports and became an accomplished downhill skier. Marilyn was a member of Tri-Delta at St. Lawrence University, she interrupted her studies to serve in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II. After the war, she married, Jesse “Ray” Agee and together they raised four girls. Continuing her love of learning and public service, Marilyn became a teacher, a career she followed until retirement. Marilyn was a member of New World United Methodist Church, Arlington Women’s Club, Arlington Newcomers, Red Hat Society, and a frequent volunteer and active member of the Arlington community. A very creative person, she was known for her collection of unique hats. She had one for every occasion. Marilyn was a prolific knitter, producing countless wash clothes and making blankets for family and friends. Marilyn was a passionate reader, very fond of biographies and historical books as well as the entire “Harry Potter” series. She avidly played bridge, Nerts, Mahjong and spent many hours putting puzzles together with her grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her sister, Lauren, daughters, Kathy, Lindy, Debbie, and Tammy, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
