

ARLINGTON -- Neil H. Dishon, physician and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend of Arlington, passed away peacefully with his family around him in the privacy of his home on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. on Monday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 North Davis Drive, Arlington.
He was born May 8, 1925, in Belmore, Ohio, to parents Maude and Neil Dishon, the youngest of five siblings. In 1943 he was drafted into the U. S. Navy and spent three years in "Ship and Aircraft Recognition." In 1946 he returned to Findlay, Ohio, to study at Findlay College, now the University of Findlay, and afterwards attended Ohio State University in Columbus, where he earned his undergraduate degree and then his doctorate in medicine.
Dr. Dishon started his career as a civilian physician in San Antonio at Kelly Air Force Base, and then moved to Blanco to be the "town doctor." It was in Blanco where he met, fell in love and married Sandra "Boots" Cage on July 6, 1968.
Sandra and Neil, with their newly blended family, moved to Denton, where Neil worked at North Texas State University as a staff physician in the student health center. In May 1971 he started working at Student Health Services at the University of Arlington, and in 1978 became the chief of staff. He spent the next 28 years there, retiring at the young age of 80.
Survivors: Dr. Dishon is survived by his loving wife and companion; children; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and so many friends we can't count!
