Neta Joan Jackson, a woman of incredible strength, knowledge and understanding, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by and held in the embrace of her two loving daughters. An opportunity to visit and to share memories of Neta's well lived life with her beloved and devastated family will be on Thursday evening, August 29, 2024, at Moore Funeral Home on N. Davis Drive in Arlington, Texas from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. A private inurnment, officiated by Reverend Mason Wagner, will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage memorials be made in Neta's honor to any pet rescue organization.
Neta was born on October 21, 1939, the fourth and final child, to Lewis Hoyle Moore and Lois Vest Moore, in Navarro County, Texas. On September 17, 1956, she married A.W. (Jack) Jackson of Boxelder, Texas in Durant, Oklahoma and they raised two daughters, Karen and Kelly. After A.W. left the United States Air Force, and maybe most importantly after 13 moves with the service, they settled in Dallas, Texas, and Neta, who had dreamed of being a nurse her whole life, began nursing school. She ultimately received her BSRN and after a final move to Arlington, Texas, worked 40 plus years at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Initially working in surgery, she ultimately opened the first Cardiac Cath Lab and Special Procedures unit at AMH and served until her retirement as the Director. Concurrently, she was co-owner of AW Travel, a successful travel agency in Fort Worth, Texas, for 10 years. She loved traveling both within the United States and internationally with her husband, her daughters and her granddaughters. She rarely missed an opportunity to take a travel adventure be it a repeat to one of her favorite locations or a first-time trip to a completely new destination. Neta was an active member, serving in various leadership roles, of Northwest Christian Church where she embodied the definition of a disciple of Christ.
After retirement and the loss of her cherished husband, she spent time doting on her family which then included a great-grandson and great-granddaughter, gardening, crocheting beautiful Afghans and shawls, sewing, shopping and loving on her two Jack Russell Terriers, a Cairn Terrier and a cat.
Neta was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, A.W. whom she lovingly referred to as Jack, her parents, sister, Jimmie, sister, Mary and brother, Bill.
Left behind to miss her loving hugs and wise counsel are her daughters, Karen English (Richard) and Kelly Jackson; granddaughters, Elizabeth English and Aren Smith (David); great-grandson, Brody Smith and great¬granddaughter, Piper Smith; and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to recognize the amazing Denise Davis, Neta's next-door neighbor, who took care of her animals as well as her during the difficult summer in and out of the hospital. Additional appreciation to her sweet neighbor Kim Swanz, who supported her with food, check ins and in helping to place her treasured pets. Thanks also to the wonderful, professional and kind support of Elysian Hospice who eased each step of the sad journey and most importantly knew how to respectively inform and include a client-nurse in her own medical needs. And, finally, we want to thank Acclaim Services owner Funmi Akintade for sending the extraordinary caregivers Pat and Tobi to support and love on her and her family. Karen and Kelly unconditionally loved their mom and were so relieved to honor her wish to, "stay at home til Jesus comes".
A visitation for Neta will be Thursday August 29, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Moore Funeral Home
